Sudanese Christians in Australia Christmas Celebrations Samson Garluoth quoted the Greek Philosopher Plato, “society is divided into three groups which are the guard for security, producers for economy and leaders for wise leadership in the state to know what is bad and good for community.” The secretary was right because the ability to distinguish between wrong and right is crucial for the development in the society. During the celebration the people from Nuba sang a hymn that says, “I have decided to follow Jesus …” in both Arabic and their local languages. The celebration was an opportunity for elders to emphasis on unity of marginalized Sudanese in all corners of the Sudan. Mr. Anguik Chan Ajeth pointed out that the marginalized Sudanese unity is important for our survival in the Sudan. He said if we have to over-come the current problems facing us we must stand together to fence off the enemies of love in the country. If we are united we can shatter all the blocks that are obstacles for us to pass free. After him it was a turn for Sudanese Community, leader in Queensland Rev. John Adoor Deng who concurred with Mr. Anguik. Mr. Deng emphasized much on importance of parenting in the Sudanese families living in the western World. “Parents should have time with their children by balancing their times with other commitments.” Parents should take their children to parks and meet their birthdays’ celebration, he said. He told elders to take care of our ethnic communities because these are the building blocks of our society. He went on to say let us try to solve our problems before they reach the police. He said this referring to family problems that arise every now and then among the Sudanese people living currently in the western world. The celebration was held at Sudanese Nuer Congregation Church in Coopers Plains, Brisbane Queensland. Moses Mayian Wan who initiated the idea of Sudanese celebrating Christmas together this year heads the Nuer Congregation Church. This is a good spirit and it is great for the firm unity of our people in this state. Meanwhile the Nuer Christians of different denomination residing in Melbourne, Australia came together at Greater Dendanong and celebrated the Christmas there. These denominations included Baptist Church, Presbyterian Church, Lutheran Church and Salvation Army. Each of them has Choirs and Women Group who sang praises to God one after the other. Rev. Stephen Gathep conducted the service and Rev. Tut Wan fed the word of God to them and about 1,337 people attended the Christmas celebration.
