The just ended civil war in Sudan has displaced communities, disrupted all sectors of development and destroyed the few Christian teaching institutions that existed. During the war there has been also a tremendous growth of Christianity. The Diocese of Bor in the south has enormously experience a rapid growth. As a result, many of the Sudanese church leaders in refugee and displaced peoples camps and in the interiors of south Sudan found themselves in positions of leadership with minimal or no formal training to enable them lead God’s flock effectively.
Good Shepherd Leadership Training Center (GSLTC) an Anglican (Christian) institution located in Wangulei South Sudan with its liaison base in East Africa is committed to training of Sudanese church and community leaders. Started in 2003 by a Sudanese Anglican priest from the Episcopal Diocese of Bor and a “Lost Boy” of Sudan (Rev. John Chol Daau), GSLTC gives new hope for the church in Sudan through its unique approach of teaching on Christian Leadership, Community Development, Management/Administration for Church and Christian Ministries/ NGOS, Bible and Theology, Pastoral Care and Counseling, Youth and Children Ministry, Conflict, Peace, Justice and Reconciliation, Linguistic/Language Development. In addition to Christian leadership development, Good Shepherd Leadership Training Center has established its publication, the New Sudan Christian newspaper that aims to keep the Sudanese Church and the world informed about the current situation in Sudan.
GSLTC desires to foster Christ-like leadership and aspires to provide hope and direction in Christian leadership by producing outstanding Christian leaders and shepherds of God’s flock who are truly loving, forgiving servant leaders with compassion in the services of the Lord. The Institute aims to prepare and mold leaders/shepherds for God’s service by teaching and provision of reliable and biblical-based knowledge and information in Christian leadership in order to increase quality and adequate skills for efficient leadership. With its principle philosophy based (2Tim 2:2). GSLTC aims to provide broad biblically based training, information and skills that will reinforce to educate, equip, nurture and develop the Sudanese Christian leaders in order to enable them perform effectively, sufficiently and improve their service delivery for the expansion of God’s kingdom in Sudan and beyond.
The institute currently offer courses at Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya, displaced people's camps and rural areas in Southern Sudan. GSLTC uses local, experienced and qualified tutors, in addition to inviting missionaries and trainers from partnership ministries and institutions, both overseas and locally, in order to facilitate training.
